The agreement was signed in Buenos Aires on July 12, 2014, with the aim of developing the international legal base for cooperation between Russia and Argentina on transfer of sentenced persons.
Under the agreement, the parties will, on a reciprocal basis and in accordance with the agreement’s conditions, transfer persons sentenced to terms of imprisonment to continue their sentence in their home country. This will help to protect Russian citizens’ lawful rights and interests.
The agreement sets out the conditions for transfer of sentenced persons and sets the requirements for form and content of transfer requests, responses to such requests, and procedures for acting on them.
The agreement does not concern matters regulated by the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union, and is not in contradiction with any other of the Russian Federation’s international agreements.
