The Agreement, prepared while taking into account modern contractual practices, stipulations in Russian legislation and international standards, was signed in Abu Dhabi on November 25, 2014 with the aim of developing the international legal foundation for Russia-UAE cooperation on matters of extraditing individuals who have committed crimes.
According to the Agreement, the Parties take on the mutual obligation, in observance of the conditions stipulated therein, to extradite individuals upon request from within the territory of one of the Parties for criminal prosecution or in order to serve a sentence in the requesting country for crimes subject to extradition. It is understood that these crimes constitute deeds that carry criminal penalties under both Parties’ legislation and are punishable by imprisonment for a period of no less than one year, or a more severe punishment.
