Senior Lieutenant Alexander Prokhorenko has been awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously) for courage and heroism in the performance of his military duties.
Mr Prokhorenko was killed on March 17, 2016, while carrying out a special mission that involved guiding Russian aircraft airstrikes near the town of Tadmur (Homs Governorate, Syria). When he found himself surrounded by ISIS fighters, the 25-year-old officer drew the fire upon himself.
