The Federal Law is aimed at eliminating an ambiguity in the Criminal Procedure Code clause that determines the conditions for exemption from criminal liability in connection with active repentance, identified in the course of judicial practice.
According to the new amendment, an individual who has committed a crime of light or medium gravity may be exempted from criminal liability if they turned themselves in after committing the crime, assisted in the investigation of the crime, rectified the damage or otherwise made amends for the harm caused by this crime and, as a result of active repentance, ceased to present a danger to society.
