Amendments to Criminal Code aimed at improving counter-terrorism measures

The President has signed the Federal Law On Amending the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation to Improve Counter-Terrorism Measures.

December 29, 2017
14:30

The Federal Law stipulates amendments to Article 2051 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, whereby the maximum imprisonment term for influencing, recruiting or otherwise persuading an individual to commit at least one of a number of crimes considered terrorist shall be increased up to 15 years. It has been proposed to increase the maximum imprisonment term for these same acts committed by an individual occupying an official post to life imprisonment.

The federal law criminalises terrorist propaganda by making corresponding amendments into Article 2052 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Additionally, this Federal Law provides for increasing the imprisonment term up to 20 years for the financing of an international terrorist act, or for actively inducing, recruiting or otherwise persuading an individual to commit an international terrorist act.
