The Agreement was signed in Moscow on December 2, 2014.
Considering that the Balkhash centre was put into operation in 1973, and four modern Voronezh radar stations were put into operation in the southern direction between 2014 and 2018, a decision was made to abandon Russia’s use of the Balkhash centre and to denounce the Agreement.
In accordance with Article 15 of the Agreement, either party may denounce the agreement with at least six months’ notice before the end of the initial five-year period or a subsequent three-year period.
The denunciation of the Agreement will not lead to a decrease in the country’s defence capability and will not entail additional expenses from the federal budget.
