The President awarded the Order of Pirogov and the St Luke of Crimea Medal to over 240 medical workers for their significant contribution to tackling the COVID-19 outbreak, selfless work, and efforts to organise activities to prevent the spread of the infection. Some of the medical workers received the decorations posthumously. Another five health professionals received the Order For Services to the Fatherland II degree.
The Order of Pirogov and the St Luke of Crimea Medal were established in June 2020. The decorations are awarded to Russian and foreign medical workers and volunteers for their achievements in battling epidemics, for developing disease treatment methods and medicines, and for their contribution to providing medical assistance and saving patients’ lives.
