In order to provide personnel and scientific support for the mineral resources sector of the Russian Federation, the President issued an Executive Order to establish the Corps of Mining Engineers, a National Centre for Personnel and Scientific Support of the Mineral Resources Sector, at St Petersburg Mining University.
The main functions of the National Centre include, in particular, coordinating the work of higher education institutions to ensure the advanced training of engineering, academic, teaching, and research personnel for the mineral resources sector; conducting scientific research in the interests of the mineral resources sector, including work at Russia’s Vostok Station in Antarctica and research in the field of deep metageology; studying international experience in training engineering, academic, teaching, and research personnel in this field and developing proposals for promising areas of international cooperation in this area.
