The Federal Law was adopted to protect the rights of citizens of the Russian Federation facing arrest (detention), criminal charges or other forms of persecution resulting from rulings by foreign and international judicial bodies whose jurisdiction does not derive from an international treaty of the Russian Federation or a UN Security Council resolution.
In accordance with the amendments introduced by this Federal Law to federal laws On Citizenship of the Russian Federation and On Defence, government bodies of the Russian Federation shall take the necessary measures to defend the rights of citizens of the Russian Federation as per the decision of the President of the Russian Federation and within the scope of their mandate under the laws of the Russian Federation.
