Vladimir Putin submitted to State Duma for ratification agreements between Russia and Estonia on Russian-Estonian border and maritime delimitation in Narva Bay and the Gulf of Finland

The President submitted to the State Duma for ratification the Agreement Between the Russian Federation and the Estonian Republic on the Russian-Estonian State Border and the Agreement Between the Russian Federation and the Estonian Republic on Maritime Delimitation in Narva Bay and the Gulf of Finland.

The agreements between Russia and Estonia on Russian-Estonian border and maritime delimitation in the gulfs of Narva and Finland were signed in Moscow on February 18, 2014.

The agreements establish state borders between the Russian Federation and the Estonian Republic.

On land, the Russian-Estonian border is established in its current location, passing along the former administrative boundary between the RSFSR and the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic with minor deviations in certain areas. The deviations were brought about by the need to take into account the land use demarcation lines between Russia and Estonia and the nature of the terrain. The land borders were adjusted on the basis of adequate territorial compensation.

Maritime space has been delimited based on the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. The delimitation line is based on the median line with some alignment. In the gulfs of Narva and Finland the Russian Federation and the Estonian Republic are allocated maritime territories of equal size.
