The Agreement, which was signed in Minsk on October 10, 2014, was developed with the aim of implementing the Agreement on Cooperation between Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States’ Border Troops in the Event of Crisis Situations at External Borders of May 17, 1996 and the Protocol on Confirming the Provisions on Organising Cooperation Between Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States’ Border Departments and Other Departments in Organising Assistance During the Occurrence and Settlement (Elimination) of Crisis Situations at External Borders of October 5, 2007.
The Agreement establishes procedures for the formation, application and cessation of work by joint groups of border agency specialists (experts).
Implementation of the agreement will help in developing partnerships between member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States in border patrol issues, increasing efficiency and effectiveness of decisions made with the aim of ensuring reliable protection of external borders and strengthening border security for member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The Agreement corresponds with the provisions of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union of May 29, 2014, as well as the provisions of other international agreements to which Russia is a party, and fully corresponds with Russia’s interests.
