On December 12, 2018, we mark a major anniversary – 25 years of the Constitution of the Russian Federation.
The adoption of the Constitution was a key turning point in Russia's recent history and the lives of its citizens. Our people made a firm, unflinching choice in favour of democracy and building a strong federal state, and proclaimed human rights and freedoms as the supreme value.
The past quarter-century proves that the Constitution has stood the test of time and created conditions for the nation's stable development and the formation of critical state and social institutions, as well as for pursuing an open foreign policy and defending our national interests. Based on the ideas and principles of the Fundamental Law, we have managed to secure Russia's sovereignty and integrity, preserve civil peace and harmony, and implement far-reaching reforms of the economy, social sector, healthcare, education, culture, and local governance.
The Constitution's democratic and constructive potential is truly unlimited. And much remains to be done to fully realize its norms and values.
