Accompanied by Deputy Healthcare Minister Viktor Fisenko, General Director of the Rogachev Centre Galina Novichkova and the Centre’s Chief Physician Dmitry Litvinov, the President was shown the new nuclear medicine building. The new facility, which opened in early November, will increase the volume of high-tech medical services.

Vladimir Putin visited an operating block in the anaesthesiology and resuscitation department, the playroom and school rooms at the department of paediatric oncology, head and neck surgery and neurosurgery, and the PET/CT scan control room in the radionuclide diagnostics and therapy department. The President also visited rehabilitation and therapy wards where he talked to the patients and their parents.

The Rogachev Research Centre is one of the world's leading facilities for the treatment of oncological and haematological diseases in children aged 7 days to 18 years. The decision to create the centre was made in 2005 after Vladimir Putin met with 10-year-old leukaemia patient Dima Rogachev; the new centre was subsequently named after him.

Today the children's medical institution includes about 150 departments and employs approximately 1,800 medical specialists. The centre focuses on introducing innovative approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders, malignant tumours, immune system diseases, as well as the development of protocols for treating them. In addition, it is one of the largest centres for paediatric stem cell transplantation.
