The meeting was attended by representatives of the Government, federal and regional executive bodies, public organisations, sports and fitness societies, and the expert community.
In his opening statement, Igor Levitin noted the need to reach the targets set in the Physical Culture and Sport Development Strategy, primarily to ensure that 40 percent of citizens exercise on a regular basis by 2020. To implement the strategy it was suggested to determine the precise competence of all participants in this work and to formalise in legislation sports societies’ status and powers.
Voronezh Region Governor Alexei Gordeyev and State Secretary, Deputy Sports Minister Natalya Parshikova presented reports at the meeting. Vladimir Region Governor Svetlana Orlova, President of the International Sambo Federation Vasily Shestakov, President of the International Student Sport Federation Oleg Matytsyn and Deputy Education and Science Minister Veniamin Kaganov, as well as other experts, took part in the debates.
Meeting participants discussed the development of the material and technical resources and the use of the student sports potential, non-Olympic and national sports and physical activities popular among the younger generation.
The report drafted by the working group will be submitted to the session of the Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport in October 2016.
