The two presidents agreed that the Russian and Egyptian security and intelligence services would work closely together on the effort to track down the criminals responsible for the terrorist attack that caused the crash of the Russian plane. Additional measures will be put into place to ensure maximum security of flights between the two countries, in order to resume flights as soon as possible.
Both leaders said it is absolutely essential that the entire international community make a united effort to fight the terrorist threat.
Mr Putin briefed Mr el-Sisi on the intensification of military operations against extremist groups in Syria. Russia’s long-range aviation and naval units have now joined these operations. Mr el-Sisi expressed support for Russia’s efforts to reach a settlement to the Syrian crisis.
The two presidents discussed in a constructive spirit current matters concerning Russia and Egypt’s strategic bilateral relationship. They noted in particular that both countries want to step up cooperation in the nuclear energy sector.
