To protect the rights and lawful interests of the citizens of the Russian Federation and Russian legal entities, and to ensure the defence of the country and national security in conditions of actions by foreign states and international organisations that are unfriendly or contrary to international law, the federal law establishes restrictive exemptions for foreign holding companies in exercising their corporate rights as regards economically important organisations. The law also establishes the conditions and procedure whereby persons indirectly owning stocks (shares in the charter capital) of economically important organisations belonging to a foreign holding company take direct possession of such stocks (shares in the charter capital). The law also establishes how precisely economically important organisations acquire public status.
