The executive order was signed in connection with the 150th birthday of Vladimir Vernadsky, who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of Russian and world science. The celebration will be held in 2013.
The Russian Government has been charged with creating an organising committee for the celebration and drafting a plan of the main events.
The Foreign Ministry and the Russian Academy of Sciences have received instructions to inform UNESCO and other international scientific organisations on the celebrations to be held in Russia in 2013 in honour of Vladimir Vernadsky’s 150th birthday.
Vladimir Vernadsky (1863–1945) is an outstanding Russian scientist, philosopher and public figure. He is the founder of the several branches of Earth sciences: geochemistry, biogeochemistry and radiogeology.
