The President said, in particular, in his message:
“Your long creative path in life has been full of memorable events and unforgettable meetings. You have always stayed true to your calling and noble vocation as an actor.”
Mr Putin wished Mr Zeldin good health, cheerful spirits and inspiration for new work on his 99th birthday.
Mr Zeldin will celebrate his birthday at the Russian Army Theatre, where he worked for nearly 70 years. He has played dozens of roles on stage and on screen and has appeared in around 40 films.
Mr Zeldin took part in a stage of the Olympic torch relay last October.
