The Agreement, signed on December 9, 2010 in Moscow, will facilitate the implementation of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia of September 17, 2008.
The Agreement is aimed at intensifying cooperation in customs control and prevention of customs violations, and facilitating passenger and cargo transportation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia.
The Agreement provides for the establishment by mutual agreement of the parties of specialised customs agencies in the signatories’ territories: a Russian agency in South Ossetia and a South Ossetian agency in the Russian Federation, with the aim of promoting trade between the parties by reducing the cost and time of customs clearance and customs control, assisting in the training of customs personnel, as well as the implementation of joint law enforcement activities.
