The two leaders had a detailed discussion of pressing issues in the successfully developing Russian-Iranian relations, expressing mutual interest in additional steps to expand trade and economic ties and cooperation in nuclear power.
They were also satisfied with the progress made at the talks with Iran by the six international mediators (five permanent members of the UN Security Council and the Federal Republic of Germany) to resolve the situation around the Iranian nuclear programme, expressing hope for success at the new round of talks within this format that has begun today in Lausanne.
Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani
also exchanged views on the sharp deterioration of the situation in the Republic of Yemen. The Russian side stressed the urgency of an immediate cessation
of hostilities and of stepping up efforts, including by the UN, to develop options
for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
