The Agreement is the basic document establishing the border between the two countries along its entire length from the western juncture between the state borders of Russia, South Ossetia and Georgia to the eastern juncture of the three states’ borders, the location of which is to be established by individual tripartite agreements.
The administrative territorial border between the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic and the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic prior to the collapse of the USSR was used as the basis for the state border between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia, to be fixed by legal normative acts and appropriate mapping.
The Agreement complies with the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty of May 29, 2014, and other international agreements that Russia is a party to and fully meets Russia’s interests. Its ratification will make it possible to legally establish the state border with South Ossetia and launch its demarcation.
