The Agreement was signed in Moscow on February 20, 2015.
The Agreement’s provisions establish the legal base for organising medical aid for Russian and Abkhazian military service personnel in military medical units and facilities belonging to Russia’s Defence Ministry, and also in medical facilities in the Republic of Abkhazia.
In particular, under the Agreement’s provisions, both parties’ military service personnel receive medical aid free of charge, with the costs covered by the parties’ funds. This aid includes emergency medical aid and planned medical treatment in accordance with the provisions for obtaining such medical aid and on the basis of the relevant standards set by the laws of each of the two countries.
The Agreement was signed for 49 years and can be automatically extended for subsequent five-year periods if neither party notifies the other at least six months in advance of its desire to terminate the Agreement.
Ratification of this Agreement will increase the level of social protection for Russian military service personnel stationed at the joint Russian military base in the Republic of Abkhazia.
