The BRICS U-17 Football Cup for teams in the under 17 age group was established as one of India’s BRICS presidency initiatives in 2016.
The goal of the tournament held on October 5–15, 2016, on the eve of the 8th BRICS Summit at the Athletic Stadium in Goa is to promote humanitarian contacts as part of cooperation between the five countries.
The Russian national team is headed by head coach Dmitry Ulyanov. The team’s 22 players represent the following football clubs: Dynamo Moscow, Spartak Moscow, CSKA, Lokomotiv Moscow, Zenit Specialised Children and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve, and Rubin. Vladimir Moskvichev, central defender from Dynamo Moscow is team captain.
