The Protocol amends and supplements a number of provisions of the Convention in order to adapt it to modern needs when pursuing international cooperation on extraditing persons wanted by the requesting country’s relevant authorities for criminal proceedings or for serving a sentence. The provisions amended or supplemented concern, in particular, issues of expiry of periods of limitations, requests and supporting documents, transit, and re-extradition to a third state.
Implementing the Protocol will facilitate improved international cooperation on extradition.
