During an in-depth discussion of the situation surrounding Russian gas transit to European consumers via Ukraine, the President drew attention to the fact that due to weather forecasts predicting a cold winter, the risk of unauthorised offtake by Ukraine of the Russian gas shipped to Europe under the existing contracts may increase.
It was agreed that this matter will be addressed by the European Commission, Russia’s Ministry of Energy, and Gazprom.
In discussing Ukraine-related issues, the two leaders underlined the importance of continued joint work to implement the Minsk agreements, also taking into account the results of the “Normandy Format” top-level meeting held in Berlin on October 19. In this context, concern was expressed over continuing violations of the regime of silence in Donbass.
The Syrian settlement process, as well as some bilateral issues, were also discussed.
