The message reads, in part:
“The Middle East and North Africa are going through tense and difficult times today. The conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen remain heated, terrorism and extremism continue to escalate, social and economic problems are becoming increasingly acute. Undoubtedly, this makes the League of Arab States more needed than ever as a mechanism for multilateral dialogue and coordinating collective efforts.
Russia seeks to continue developing its partnership relations with the League of Arab States in order to bring about a swift diplomatic and political resolution of the regional crisis and to achieve post-conflict recovery of the affected countries. We continue to attach particular importance to efforts to strengthen the ceasefire regime in Syria, fight the terrorist organisations operating there, provide humanitarian aid to the population, and advance the political process.
It is our view that resolving the longstanding Palestinian problem is an essential condition for the long-term stabilisation of the situation in the region. The League of Arab States’ peace initiative, which lays the ground for moving the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations forward, remains very relevant today in this respect.
I am certain that continued development of constructive ties between Russia and the League of Arab States is in the basic interests of our countries’ peoples and will help to strengthen international stability and security”.
