Held since 2008, the event is one of the key platforms in the Middle East that brings together heads of state and government, business and civil society to discuss low-carbon development and investment in renewable energy.
On the sidelines of the forum, Ruslan Edelgeriyev met with UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy for Climate Change Sultan Al Jaber, and congratulated him on his appointment as President-Designate for the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which will take place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12.
The Presidential Adviser expressed confidence in the success of the COP28, which will feature the first global progress review (Paris Agreement review mechanism). The UAE's leading role in financing low-carbon development will provide further impetus for increasing climate ambition for the benefit of socioeconomic development around the world. Sultan Al Jaber's unique experience in leading oil and gas companies and attracting investment in renewable energy over many years will help engage energy-sector organisations in global decarbonisation and contribute to a further balanced and pragmatic discussion on climate issues.
Sultan Al Jaber, for his part, expressed hope that the Russian delegation headed by Ruslan Edelgeriev would engage effectively at COP-28, and also called for active expert and political cooperation in drafting the final resolutions.
The parties agreed to organise additional interaction at the working level.
