On May 16–17, 2024, at the invitation of President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin will make a state visit to the People’s Republic of China as his first foreign trip after taking office.
The leaders of Russia and China will have an extensive discussion of the entire scope of issues pertaining to the Russia-China overarching partnership and strategic cooperation. They will outline priorities for further practical cooperation between the two states and have an in-depth exchange of opinions on the most pressing international and regional issues.
It is planned that, following the talks, the presidents will sign a joint statement and several bilateral documents.
Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping will attend a gala event marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between Russia and China and the opening of the Years of Russian and Chinese Cultures.
The programme of the Russian President’s visit includes a meeting with Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Li Qiang, during which the parties will discuss bilateral cooperation in trade, the economy and humanitarian affairs.
The President of Russia will also visit Harbin, the administrative centre of the Heilongjiang Province, where he will attend the opening of the 8th Russia-China EXPO and the 4th Russia-China Forum on Interregional Cooperation. Vladimir Putin will also meet with the students and faculty of the Harbin Institute of Technology.
