The discussion focused on the priorities and programme of South Africa’s G20 Presidency and further steps to coordinate Russia’s stance in the negotiating process, including addressing cross-sectoral issues related to accelerating economic growth, food security and artificial intelligence. The participants supported South Africa’s commitment to strengthening the G20 as a key international forum of economic cooperation, seeking practical solutions to global challenges and developing effective mechanisms of interaction. They noted the alignment of Russia’s priorities with the programme proposed by South Africa, with its emphasis on financing development, reducing inequality, accelerating the Just Energy Transition, reducing the debt burden of the developing countries, and preventing geopolitical issues from influencing the G20 economic agenda.
Based on the results of the meeting, the participants formulated further steps towards closer interdepartmental coordination of Russia’s participation in the G20 aimed at preparing the decisions of the G20 summit, which will be held in Johannesburg on November 22–23, 2025.
