The monument was erected to honour the deed of the Soviet and US pilots, who used the Alaska-Siberia air route to transport military aircraft, fighters and bombers, supplied from the United States to the USSR under the Lend-Lease programme. The monument commemorates the history of cooperation between the two countries, depicting the handshake of the Soviet and US pilots against the background of a vertically positioned aircraft wing.
