The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 30th Coal of Russia and Mining international exhibition in Novokuznetsk.
Taking part in the event were Deputy Energy Minister Sergei Mochalnikov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Mikhail Ivanov, Head of the Federal Agency for Rail Transport Alexei Druzhinin, Aide to the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Anatoly Yanovsky, representatives from federal agencies, Russian regions, and CEOs of coal mining companies.
The meeting participants discussed the way sanctions imposed by unfriendly countries were affecting the coal sector, the embargo on the Russian coal imposed by the EU, higher coal shipment tariffs and declining exports, as well as the socioeconomic implications of higher fuel shipping costs and declining exports for coal producing regions.
Following the meeting, proposals were drafted on minimising the consequences for all stakeholders in coal extraction and transportation, primarily for Russian regions. These initiatives will be submitted to the Government of the Russian Federation.
