Vladimir Pronichev briefed Dmitry Medvedev on the Coast Guard’s efforts, in coordination with relevant ministries and agencies, to provide security within the economic zone of the Russian Federation and continental shelf. The Border Guard Service, together with colleagues from Japan, South Korea, China, the United States and Canada, is involved in combatting cross-border criminal groups. The Border Guard Service Director also reported on the security arrangements for the 2012 APEC Summit.
Dmitry Medvedev instructed Vladimir Pronichev to pay particular attention to fighting poaching and protecting Russia’s marine resources. The President instructed the Border Guard Service Director to intensify efforts on setting up a single user database of problem vessels.
Dmitry Medvedev inspected the Komandor, which is the parent vessel in the group of ships protecting fish stocks in the Far East fishing zone.
The President also visited the Pallada training ship, which will set out on an expedition on Friday. Its itinerary includes the United States (the southern part of Alaska, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu and Hawaii), Canada and Japan. The sailboat was launched in 1989 and participated in international regattas and sailing festivals. Pallada belongs to the Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University in Vladivostok and is considered to be the fastest sailing vessel in the world.
