Taking part in the meeting were Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Transport and Construction Yevgeny Moskvichev, Head of the Federal Service for Transport Supervision Viktor Basargin, federal and regional executive officials, representatives of national public organisations, and members of the expert community.
The participants noted that road and rail transport account for the bulk of passenger transport in the regions. There has been an increase in suburban transport used for commuter purposes, and at peak traffic periods on weekends, and at the same time, the public is demanding a higher quality of passenger transport.
Providing high-quality and reliable passenger transport is a key condition for the regions’ socioeconomic development, and addressing the situation requires the search for a whole range of comprehensive solutions to resolve existing problems.
The meeting participants discussed the working group report’s concept and structure, examined the state of passenger transport in the regions, and looked at proposals for preparing an upcoming State Council Presidium meeting.
