In a meeting with the Governor of Tver Region following the tragic incident in the Krasnodar Territory, Dmitry Medvedev emphasised measures to ensure safety of children during their holidays at summer camps. The President noted that this incident has demonstrated that there is still much to be done in this area, and major problems remain with regard to organising summer recreation and training for educational personnel. Given the large number of children’s recreational facilities in the Tver Region, Mr Medvedev wanted to know about the measures being taken in the region to organise children’s recreation.
Dmitry Zelenin said that thorough preparatory work is conducted before every summer season: it concerns activities, accommodations and nutrition for children, and staff training. These meetings are attended by representatives from the Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Control Service (Rospotrebnadzor) and the Department of the Interior.
The President noted that governors in every region should be doing this kind of work. Attention must be given to both organisational issues and professional behaviour by staff. As for the incident in the Krasnodar Territory, an investigation must be conducted, all legal procedures must be followed, and those found responsible must be punished, the President stressed.
