President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev: Mr President, I am very pleased to see you again.
Our regular high-level contacts stem from the strategic nature of the relations between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China.
We visit each other and organise various official events, but meetings such as today’s are particularly important too — these chances to talk on the sidelines of various summits, such as the BRICS summit about to take place here in New Delhi. Such contacts offer us the chance to exchange thoughts on developing our strategic partnership and our bilateral cooperation, draw up future plans, and discuss current bilateral matters and cooperation questions.
It is a great pleasure to see you. I give you the floor.
President of China Hu Jintao (retranslated): Mr President, it is likewise a great pleasure to see you again. This is our first meeting this year.
Our comprehensive strategic cooperation and partnership and our bilateral relations are developing well at present. I want to make use of today’s opportunity to have a substantial exchange of views with you on bilateral matters and current regional and international issues.
With your permission, I would like to start by discussing our bilateral relations. During my visit in June last year, we set the directions and development goals for our relations over the coming decade and together drew up cooperation plans for our countries in various areas, thus giving new impetus to our strategic cooperation and partnership’s all-round development.
