The President of Russia has arrived in the Republic of Turkey to attend the 5th trilateral meeting between the leaders of the guarantor states of the Astana process on the settlement in Syria.
During the talks with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, further joint efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement in the Syrian Arab Republic will be discussed.
Separate bilateral meetings with the leaders of Turkey and Iran are also planned.
The first summit on Syria attended by the presidents of Russia, Turkey and Iran was held in November 2017 in Sochi. Following it, the three leaders stated that the creation of de-escalation zones in Syria should not undermine the country’s territorial integrity or violate its sovereignty.
Further trilateral meetings on the Syrian settlement took place in Ankara in April 2018, in Tehran in September 2018 and in Sochi in February 2019.
