Participants in the working group meeting included representatives of the Government, federal and regional executive bodies, public organisations, fitness and sport associations, and the expert community.
Speaking at the meeting, Presidential Aide Igor Levitin noted the need to assess the current national system of physical education and called for developing proposals to renew the system of physical fitness associations, whose activities would primarily be targeted at engaging economically active citizens in physical fitness and sport.
The meeting discussed the potential of non-Olympic and national sports, as well as physical activities popular with youth. An important issue discussed was the development of sambo both in Russia and abroad as a type of sport that not only has a practical use but also plays an important role in the patriotic education of young people.
Top officials of the Ministry of Sport informed the meeting participants of the measures to implement the Presidential Executive Order on implementing the National Ready for Labour and Defence Health and Fitness Programme.
The results of the work, as well as comments and proposals, will become the basis for the report for the Council's meeting, whose draft will be considered by the working group at its final meeting in August.
