Vladimir Putin gave the Egyptian leader a detailed account of Russian assessments of the latest developments in Syria in the context of the military operation to destroy terrorists in that country which is nearing completion. Also discussed were the results of talks with President of Syria Bashar al-Assad and issues related to the November 22 top-level meeting in Sochi between Russia, Iran and Turkey, the guarantor counties of the Astana peace process.
The importance of the National Dialogue Conference, which was organised at Russia’s initiative and will convene representatives of a large cross-section of Syrian society, was noted.
President Sisi praised the role of the Russian Aerospace Forces in destroying international terrorist groups on the territory of Syria and expressed support for Russia’s diplomatic and humanitarian efforts toward implementing agreements reached in the Astana format.
Current issues of the bilateral agenda were touched upon, including large-scale joint projects, specifically in nuclear energy.
Mutual satisfaction was expressed with the general course of the friendly relations between Russia and Egypt.
