The discussion covered the implementation of the agreements reached at the international conference on Libya held in Berlin on January 19, 2020. The President of Russia noted the need to coordinate the decisions made with the Libyan parties, which is important for their subsequent consideration and approval by the UN Security Council. Both sides emphasised the expediency of building up the global community’s efforts in order to ensure a stable ceasefire and the launch of a political dialogue.
Other topics discussed included developments in Ukraine and Syria, as well as the Middle East peace process. In this context, Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel exchanged views on the US plan for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The two leaders also addressed some issues on the bilateral agenda and agreed on further contacts.
