The two leaders had a substantial discussion on specific aspects of the Syrian peace settlement, taking into account the recent aggravation in the Idlib de-escalation zone. In this context, they expressed hope that the Russian-Turkish summit talks to be held in Moscow on March 5 will be fruitful.
While exchanging views on the developments in Libya, Mr Putin and Ms Merkel underscored that the parties to the conflict need to comply with the ceasefire and the decisions made at the Berlin Conference held in January.
It was also agreed on further contacts.
