The meeting participants discussed the drafting of a plan for the implementation of the Strategy of Social and Economic Development with Low Greenhouse Gas Emission through to 2050, industry and regional plans for adapting to climate change, measures to ensure methane emissions monitoring, as well as activities under the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Ruslan Edelgeriyev underscored the importance of full implementation of the plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the economy and meet the goals set by the President of Russia in this respect. As to the economy’s adaptation to climate change, he highlighted the need for the deeper involvement of Russian regions in the development of corresponding action plans.
As part of the preparations for the Russian delegation’s participation in the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, to be held in Egypt on November 7–18, 2022, the meeting discussed organisational issues and participation of Russian experts in the development and implementation of international legal agreements related to climate change.
The Russian Federation, like all parties to the Paris Agreement, is committed to fulfilling its international obligations to address climate change and develop cooperation in this area. BRICS, the EAEU and other interstate associations are working out measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change.
