Mr Savchenko spoke in particular about completion of a new plant to produce lysine, which will replace $200 million worth of imports. The region is also carrying out a programme to build 500 hectares of new greenhouses and is introducing new technology for growing apples.
The region’s agriculture sector grew by 8 percent over the first three quarters of 2014, and the agricultural products processing industry is growing by 10–15 percent a year. Overall, the region expects an increase of at least three percent in its gross regional product this year.
