Amendments to laws on education in Crimea and Sevastopol

Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law On Amending Article 4 of the Federal Law On Legal Regulation of Education in the Context of the Republic of Crimea Joining the Russian Federation and the Establishment of New Regions, the Republic of Crimea and the Federal City of Sevastopol, within the Russian Federation and On Amending the Federal Law On Education in the Russian Federation.

The amendments concern educational organisations in the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol as well as branches of foreign educational organisations located in these Russian regions that, as of January 1, 2014, had a right to provide educational services in accordance with Ukrainian law and whose licenses to provide educational services under the corresponding educational programmes were recognised. These organisations must obtain licenses to provide educational services in the manner envisaged by Russian law by September 1, 2019.

The Federal Law similarly addresses the issue of state accreditation of educational organisations that, as of January 1, 2014, had the right to issue education documents to their graduates in accordance with Ukrainian law.
