The Inspection is underway as per the President’s instructions. The staff of the Commissioner’s Office spent several days in Komi, where they visited 27 government institutions, including seven that have in-patient care facilities for children.

During a meeting with the head of the republic, Vladimir Uyba Uyba Vladimir Uyba Vladimir , Maria Lvova-Belova Lvova-Belova Maria Lvova-Belova MariaPresidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights pointed positive changes in the prevention of social orphanhood in the republic. The Inspection is aimed at reducing the number of children living in such institutions by promoting stable families, the Commissioner noted.

Maria Lvova-Belova and Vladimir Uyba also chaired a meeting with the heads of regional bodies and institutions involved in the prevention of neglect and juvenile delinquency, as well as guardianship and custody bodies. The Commissioner issued recommendations based on the results of the monitoring conducted in the region.

She also visited rehabilitation and social centres for underage children and personally met with local residents.
