Visit to St Petersburg. Celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad
Vladimir Putin took part in celebrations marking the full lifting of the siege of Leningrad. The President laid a wreath at the Motherland monument at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery, and laid flowers at the Border Stone monument at the Nevsky Pyatachok military history memorial complex. Mr Putin later visited an exhibition displaying a 3D panorama of a Great Patriotic War battle, Proryv [The Breakthrough]. The President also met with Great Patriotic War veterans who took part in the battle for Leningrad and with people who lived through the siege, and attended the premiere of a ballet, Requiem, at the Alexandrinsky Theatre.
