The First Lady proposed last December establishing a nationwide network of women’s health clinics providing free diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and cancers of the female reproductive system.
The first of these centres will open in St Petersburg in 2011. Mrs Medvedeva visited the Radiology Research Centre to discuss the possibilities for opening the next of these women’s health clinics in Moscow.
Accompanied by the centre’s research director, Academician Vladimir Kharchenko, and his deputy, Nadezhda Rozhkova, the First Lady visited the laboratories and wards, spoke with the patients, talked with children receiving treatment in the radiation therapy department, and gave them presents.
Speaking with the centre’s head doctors, Mrs Medvedeva cited the need to spread as widely as possible the experience, methods and technology used at the centre.
With the March 8 Women’s Day holiday just around the corner, the First Lady congratulated the centre’s women doctors and thanked them for their important work.
The Russian Radiology Research Centre was founded in 1924 and is the leading Russian centre for developing radiation diagnosis and radiation therapy.
