Svetlana Medvedeva expressed the hope that through their diligence and perseverance, the people of Japan will overcome this calamity. The First Lady confirmed readiness to continue assisting the Japanese side and affirmed Russia’s willingness to welcome the children and families of victims for recuperation and medical treatment. Many Russian regions have already expressed support for this initiative.
The First Lady also noted that the President of Russia suggested offering jobs in Russia for Japanese citizens who suffered in the catastrophe.
Masaharu Kono particularly remarked on the scope of support offered by Russia to Japan in the days of the tragedy.
Ms Medvedeva emphasised that the tragedy in Japan and recent events in the Middle East demonstrate the fragility of peace on earth, and that it is imperative for everyone to be more kind and attentive to one another. The First Lady also expressed certainty that the development of bilateral economic, humanitarian, and cultural cooperation will continue.
