The President visited Kanchalan, a multinational village that is home to 14 different nationalities, located 70 kilometres from Anadyr. This is the first village in Chukotka where the concept of ethnic villages development was put into practice. In 2004–2005, about 100 well-furnished cottages and a building with 12 small-family apartment blocks were constructed in the village.
Dmitry Medvedev visited a family living in one of the cottages and toured the district hospital and educational centre, which includes a school, a kindergarten, a boarding school and a sports complex. He also chatted with residents of the village in the street.
The President visited one of the reindeer herding brigades near Kanchalan and became acquainted with the conditions of the life and work of reindeer herders.
During the flight to Anadyr Dmitry Medvedev had a brief conversation with Governor of the Chukotka Autonomous District Roman Kopin.
