In his speech at the event, Mr Ivanov said that the Constitution has played a unifying role by setting the direction for Russia’s development not just in its legal foundations, but more importantly in its basic values too.
Sergei Ivanov said that having the Constitution’s solid foundation has enabled Russia to withstand some very big tests, ensure political stability, and strengthen state institutions.
Being guided by the Constitution’s basic principles and constantly referring to its provisions, Russia must now continue to move forward and resolve the big tasks before the country and society, Mr Ivanov said.
The Chief of Staff noted that the reason for holding this meeting was not just to mark the Constitution’s anniversary but also to use this opportunity to examine the first comprehensive review of the state of Russia’s laws and all the legislation that has been created over these last 20 years. Mr Ivanov said that this discussion will be of use for critical assessment of what has been achieved and outlining areas that need adjustment in accordance with today’s demands and the country’s development tasks.
Sergei Ivanov also read out Vladimir Putin’s greetings to the meeting’s participants.
