Mr Medvedev said in particular in his message:
“This religious holiday of importance for every Muslim symbolizes peace and goodness, forgiveness and care for each other. It reminds us of the foundations of Islam, which call for justice and compassion and cultivate respect for universal values in people’s hearts.
The ancient Kurban Bairam holiday is widely and freely celebrated in Russia today. Every year pilgrims perform Hajj and prayers for the country’s well being sound in every mosque. For Muslims, these uplifting days are a time for spiritual self-improvement and attention to those in need.
In maintaining these centuries-old Muslim traditions you contribute to preserving our country’s spiritual and cultural diversity and help to promote mutual understanding, tolerance and interethnic harmony in Russian society.”
